Why this club?

When I looked for a ceramics community in Nice, I couldn't find one. Maybe it exists somewhere, in circles I'm not part of. But if it's hard to find, it's not accessible to everyone. Nice Pottery Club wants to change that: to create an open space where people can meet, connect, and inspire each other.

Being a non-profit changes everything: we're not here to make money, we're here to make ceramics more accessible, more visible, and more vibrant in Nice. What's good for studios, artists and practitioners is good for us — and vice versa.

What we want to build

  • Regular events. Technical workshops run by professional ceramists, artist talks, informal meetups, open practice sessions. The programme will be built with members and partners — not a fixed calendar imposed in advance, but things that actually matter to the people who show up.
  • A shared practice space. For those who want to practise outside of their classes, and for independent ceramists looking for a studio and a community. Properly equipped — worktables, tools, wheels, and eventually a kiln on site.
  • A shared resource library — books, references, tools — available to members.
  • Concrete actions for accessibility. Solidarity pricing on memberships and events, grants to fund classes with our partner studios, partnerships with social and healthcare organisations. This will be a real priority, not a box to tick.

Who it's for

  • You've never touched clay. The club is planning introductory sessions with professional partner studios so you can start in good conditions.
  • You already practise, in classes or independently. Whether you're looking for more practice time between sessions, a workspace, or simply people who share this passion — the club is for you.
  • You teach or work in ceramics professionally. Paid opportunities to run workshops or give talks, visibility with an engaged community, peers, and the chance to help build something that didn't exist in this form in Nice before.
  • In any case. The association is open to any adult. The annual membership will be kept as low as possible — the idea is that it's a no-brainer, not a barrier. Solidarity pricing applies to both membership and paid events.

We're looking for co-founders

The association is being created. There's a lot still to build — spaces to find, partners to convince, events to organise, funding to raise. We're learning as we go, and we can't do it alone.

If you have skills in event organisation, communications, fundraising, or association management — or simply want to help shape what this becomes from the very beginning — send us a message. We'd love to work together.

FAQ

I'm a complete beginner — is the club for me?
Yes. We're planning introductory sessions with professional partner studios so everyone can start in good conditions. You don't need to have touched clay before joining the community.
I'm a professional ceramist or artist — what's in it for me?
Paid opportunities to run workshops or give talks, visibility with an engaged community, and the chance to shape what the club becomes. We handle the logistics and sponsorship — you bring your expertise.
What do events look like?
It depends on who proposes them and who comes. We're thinking technical workshops on specific topics — making your own slips, working a particular form, understanding glazes — artist and ceramist talks, informal get-togethers, and open practice sessions for those who just want to come and work. Some events will be free or sponsored, others paid — always with solidarity pricing.
What does it cost?
The annual membership will be set as low as possible. Solidarity pricing applies to both membership and paid events: a reduced rate for under-26s and over-65s, and a solidarity rate on application for those facing financial hardship.
Hine, founder of Nice Pottery Club

The human behind this

Hello! I'm Hinerangi, but most people call me Hine. I grew up in Aotearoa (New Zealand), have lived in Nice for almost 20 years, and work in tech. I'm obsessed with learning and making everything I can.

A pottery workshop organised by my workplace put clay in my hands for the first time — at Sandra's Atelier Terracotta. Then pottery took a back seat — until 2025, when I really got hooked.

I believe artistic practice should be accessible to everyone. That's as much a personal conviction as it is an ambition for this club.
